25 June 2021 13:07

On June 23, Emine Dzhaparova took part in a webinar dedicated to the the Crimea Platform, which was organized by the Islamabad Institute for Conflict Resolution and the Embassy of Ukraine in Pakistan.

The event was also attended by the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Anton Korynevych and the "Crimean Solidarity" public movement activist Lutfie Zudieva.

The First Deputy Minister informed about the deteriorating situation in Crimea under the temporary occupation by Russia, in particular, due to the unprecedented militarization of the peninsula, suppression of the rights and freedoms of its population, oppression of all forms of opposition to the occupying power, violation of international humanitarian law.

She emphasized the need to overcome these trends by strengthening the effectiveness and coordination of the international community's response to the ongoing occupation of the peninsula and presented the main elements of the Crimea Platform concept as a key foreign policy tool for the de-occupation of Crimea.

Emine Dzhaparova informed about the thematic areas of the Platform's activities, in particular, the policy of non-recognition, the effectiveness of sanctions regimes, protection of human rights and international humanitarian law, security and freedom of navigation, overcoming economic and environmental consequences of the occupation.

The First Deputy Minister noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine team, led by Minister Dmytro Kuleba, is working on convening and organizing the Inaugural Summit of the Crimea Platform, which will take place in Kyiv on August 23, 2021.

Anton Korynevych outlined the main elements of the Strategy of De-occupation and Reintegration of Crimea, adopted by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and approved by the President of Ukraine in March 2021. He focused on measures aimed at maintaining ties with the population of the temporarily occupied territory, protecting persons deprived of their liberty as a result of Russian aggression, protecting the rights of the Crimean Tatar people, elaborating the concept of transitional justice and taking relevant elements into account in the Strategy.

Lutfie Zudieva stressed the peaceful and non-violent nature of the struggle of the Crimean Tatar people for their rights. She noted that the occupation administration was abusing anti-terrorism and extremism legislation to prosecute on political, religious and ethnic grounds. The human rights activist informed the audience about the violations of international humanitarian law in relation to the indigenous people of Crimea - the Crimean Tatars, the ban of the Mejlis, as well as presented the personal stories of individual political prisoners and their families. She recalled the fate of Ervin Ibragimov, a member of the executive committee of the World Congress of Crimean Tatars and the Bakhchisaray regional Mejlis, in particular the lack of a proper investigation into his disappearance by the occupation administration.
