On August 24, 2019, Ukraine celebrates Independence Day - a national holiday in honor of the adoption in 1991 of the Act of Independence of Ukraine. The rise of a sovereign Ukraine played a decisive role in the collapse of the USSR and the final destruction of the communist totalitarian system. This was the beginning of a new stage in the development of a democratic modern Ukrainian state. Today, Ukraine's independence is a guarantee of the free development of the states and peoples of Europe and a major obstacle to Russian imperialism.

The desire for freedom - the defining value of Ukrainians, which gave inspiration and strength to remain themselves in times of statelessness. The highest manifestation of the freedom of the enslaved people is gaining independence to create their own future.

On August 24, 1991, the state independence of Ukraine was actually restored, which crowned the long path of the Ukrainian people to independence. The concept of state measures for the Independence Day should be based on the idea of longevity and continuity of millennial state-building traditions of Ukraine, understanding that on August 24, 1991 the restoration of state independence of Ukraine actually took place.

The proclamation of independence on August 24, 1991 was the logical conclusion of Ukrainian statehood. Therefore, celebrating the 29th anniversary of the adoption of the Act of Independence of Ukraine, we should honor all previous stages – Kyivan Rus, Galicia-Volyn principality, Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Cossack state, Ukrainian statehood of the early twentieth century. From them modern Ukraine has absorbed the traditions of statehood.

Modern Ukraine is a dynamic nation of freedom-lovers, ready to protect itself and provide a brilliant and prosperous future. It’s a tolerant and strong nation famous throughout the world because of beautiful nature, rich cultural traditions and hard-working people, their achievements in sport, business and international cooperation.
